Drug abuse in the NFL family
There has been some rather discouraging news in the NFL American Football league although it is concerned with a foreign official. It has been reported that a Canadian medical officer has been charged with unlawfully treating the NFL player with drugs that had not been approved. Some of the drugs that were found to be in use included the growth hormone known as HGH. The NFL American Football authorities have taken up the case and are following the different leads to ensure that the affected players are identified at the earliest opportunity. The doctor in question has been revealed to be Dr Anthony Galea and he has treated some major stars including Tiger Woods.
The charges include lying to federal officials, smuggling drugs and the distribution of the same. There is also a charge of conspiracy to defraud the United States of America. If convicted the doctor could be put away for twenty years. The doctor was also charged in Canada with selling an unproved drug as well as sundry smuggling charges. The NFL has not yet been informed of the players that were treated by this doctor. However there is no doubt that the nature of charges throws a very dark shadow on the NFL American Football sport in general and the individual players in particular. There is a very noble drive to keep sports clean and such news as this does not advance the cause but rather leaves the people in limbo.
The individual greed of people can cost an entire industry the reputation that has been built over a long period of time. It can have a devastating impact on the individual careers of the players involved and there might be other trickle down effects that fall on people just by the fact that they did associate with this doctor at a given time. For the fans it makes them think that the entire game is a joke and people are not competing fully with an equal playing field. That is what can drive the fans a way and ensure that the sport remains unpopular.
